Optimization of the cultivation and processing of faba beans as a complete protein component in the dairy cattle ration
The target group of this project are organic dairy farmers. In organic dairy farming, it remains a challenge to get more protein from our own crops. Due to the disappearance and/or increase in the cost of alternatives, maximising our own protein production is becoming increasingly urgent within organic livestock farming. This group of farmers is therefore strongly committed to the cultivation of field beans. Despite the lower crude protein percentage compared to soy, field beans also offer quite a bit of perspective as a protein crop. Field beans are a feasible crop in Flanders. With this project proposal, both cultivation and processing techniques are being further explored to further upgrade field beans into a fully-fledged protein component in the dairy cattle ration.
