Body
This project aims to improve the biological control of aphids and woolly apple aphids in organic apple production. The specific research themes are:
- Optimization of the timing for biological products at two application periods: spring and autumn. Evaluation of the effectiveness of approved biological products and, if relevant, biological products that are not yet approved in pome fruit cultivation.
- In relation to timing, achieve maximum combined control of woolly apple aphid and other aphids, while stimulating parasitation.
- Optimization of spraying techniques using upward-directed nozzles to improve the effectiveness of aphid treatments for better woolly apple aphid control.
- Mapping the effects of the tested and applied products (in early spring and autumn) on overwintering mummies of the parasitoid wasp Aphelinus mali, the wasp that specifically parasitizes woolly apple aphid.
Preventive measures are also monitored: biodiversity elements that support natural enemies (parasitoid wasps as well as other predators) and the relationship with the nitrogen applied.
