EcoGreation: Ecological greenhouse diversification with multifunctional plants
Due to economic viability, the current number of plant families in rotation in organic heated greenhouses is limited. As a result, the soil is heavily stressed, and pathogen populations such as root-knot nematodes or aphids can easily build up. Therefore, organic growers are looking for new crops that can offer added value within their cropping plan, either by controlling weeds, diseases, or pests, or by maintaining profitability, productivity, and soil health.
EcoGreation aims to develop a sustainable, resilient, and economically attractive cultivation system for intensive organic protected fruit and vegetable cultivation, through the integration of multifunctional service crops (Agro-ecological Service Crops) that increase diversity and biological activity in the greenhouse. Among other things, a living lab is being created that actively involves growers through iterative feedback.
The project is part of the European AgroEcology Partnership.
